I’m a writer and the editorial director of Sandstone Press, an independent publishing house based in the Highlands of Scotland.  I’ve been writing since I was a child, completing my first novel aged twelve, Escapades of Amelia, a work which owed quite a debt to Enid Blyton.  My fourth (adult!) novel ‘The Treacle Well’ will appear in May 2015.  When I get time, I work in my big untidy garden, a haven for wild life if not a likely entry for the Open Gardens Scheme.  I run up the hill outside the house in the morning and walk a friend’s well-behaved dog every day.  I’m lucky to live in such a beautiful place.  I have two grown-up children, living – at present – in London.  Both my cats are black, and the outdoor one, Mr Sparks, features frequently on the Sandstone Press Facebook page, in his role as honorary board member and very strict editor, often sitting on a heap of manuscript to keep it in order.
